Installer Certification

This training program is based upon 4 field technician program modules (in order):

Introductory Technical Training

This training introduces the Pacom's comprehensive line of security solutions. It is intended for technicians who will be installing, configuring and maintaining these solutions.

Technicians equipped with basic understanding of security installations and good wiring skills will best benefit from this training. Understanding of computer networks will be an advantage.

Also, this training will introduce Pacom's configuration software, the Pacom GMS. Existing computer experience such as installing software, using its help features, will assist in grasping this training content.

The training is broken down into three modules:

  • Pacom's Security Solution

In this module we first look at security setups and how Pacom offers solutions for these setups. Then we discuss Pacom security products that can be deployed in these setups. Products covered are: the Pacom's versatile field controllers, expandable input/output controllers and mezzanine cards, card reader interfaces and LCD keypads. For each product, we will look at its PCB, its different configurable parts (links and switches), how to interpret the PCB's LEDs and how to connect devices.

  • Install and Configure GMS Config

Technicians use the GMS Config. This software is free from Pacom for registered users. It provides all the functionality equipped to handle configuration of Pacom products. The module introduces the GMS Config and then looks at its installation and functionality.

  • Configure Pacom Security Solution

Central to the Pacom security solution is the field controller. It manages the solution including the peripherals and their communication, interprets alarm situations, can control recording and transmission of site CCTV video, and maintains access control. In addition, it stores all the configuration data of the solution. The module covers how to setup the field controller and configure it and its attached peripherals.

Advanced Technical Training

This training takes over from the Introductory Technician Training. The installers are given more opportunity to use and familiarize themselves with Pacom GMS software. The contents cover configuration of a typical security solution. You will run through an exhaustive list of tasks which cover alarm area configuration, field controller configuration and access control configuration.

Existing knowledge of Pacom GMS menus and dialog boxes is beneficial and taking the training only after the Introductory Technician is mandatory. Also, must understand security industry terminology to best benefit from this training.

The training is constitutes of three modules:

  • Area Configurations

The Pacom GMS offers a whole range of configurable options and parameters to customize an alarm area. This module will cover most of these options and their descriptions. You will learn how GMS makes it easy to configure an area, while keeping it highly customizable to meet area specific requirements.

  • Controller Settings

Additional Controller settings are covered in this module. These settings offer customizable parameters and explain why they may be needed in a setup.

  • Access Control Configurations

This module covers the whole range of access control options and parameters offered in GMS. It also includes topics on elevators and its configuration.
As you advance through this module you will be allowed to reinforce your learning through multiple Lab exercises.

GMS Configuration Training

The training continues on the journey of the installer. Additional emphasis is put on understanding a GMS setup and tasks involved in configuring a security solution with the GMS setup central to the solution.

Modules included are:

  • GMS Installation and its Configuration

This looks at installing a complete GMS setup which includes servers, sub-servers, their databases and connecting workstations. Then it looks at how to bring the whole setup live and how its interconnectivity works.

  • GMS Components

Here in this module, components of the GMS software is introduced. Then each component is put to use to accomplish tasks such as creating maps of sites, manage alarm and access events, manage hardware components and many others. This module also portrays how the GMS whole system works together.

Base Station Training

The installer in this training is introduced to the concept of base station and its constituents. Each constituent is looked at independently, where configurations are addressed and they put together to make the base station setup.

  • Introduction to Base Station Setup

This module provides an overview of the Pacom base station setup and what constitutes the setup.

  • CPU Configuration, CCU Configuration, TransIT Configuration

Each of these modules addresses a base station constituent: CPU, CCU and TransIT. Each elaborates on what settings are required, how they can be customized to requirements and how they are configured to work with each other and with field controllers in the security sites.

System Administration Certification

This training program is based upon 4 operator program modules (in order):

Introductory Pacom Training

A short but intense course which introduces Pacom and its security solutions. Then a look at the Pacom GMS software and its components for managing security sites, alarms and access control.

Modules in this course include:

  • Pacom's Security Solution

In this module we first look at security setups and how Pacom offers solutions for these setups. Setups introduced are single field controller sites, peer-to-peer, setups with TransITs and a full base station setup.

  • Pacom GMS Software

An introduction to the GMS software and its various components is given. Then learn to use GMS to perform administrate tasks.

  • Using Various GMS Components

Basic use of the GMS components such as Summary Manager, Site Maps and Card Access is elaborated in this module.

GMS Operator Training - Event Response Training

Another short course for the security administrator to take. This looks at event response handling and the focus is the Summary Manager component of GMS.

  • Operation of a Site

Learn to use GMS for operational tasks such as mode changes, opening doors and many others.

  • Alarm Response

Learn to use GMS to respond to alarm events reported from sites.

GMS Operator Training - Access Management Training

A course that looks at access control handling and management. The focus of this course is the GMS Card Access Manager.

  • Operation of a Site

Learn to use GMS access control operational tasks such as access door locking unlocking and many others.

  • Card Access Management

Learn to use GMS design and create access cards and manage cards in the database.

  • Card Transaction Manager

Learn to use GMS to review access transactions and generate reports.

GMS Administrator Training

This administrator training encompasses all operational aspects of GMS, including GMS setups and configurations required to manage alarms and access control in a setup.

Then each component is put to use to accomplish tasks such as creating maps of sites, configure alarm and access control, manage alarm and access events, manage hardware components and many others. This module also portrays how the whole GMS system works together.

  • Diagnostics

Learn basic diagnostics of field controllers to assist Pacom authorized resellers prior to arriving on site.
